Dr James Puryer

James Puryer qualified form Bristol University in 1993. He undertook a year's Vocational Training in General Practice in Taunton , where he continued to practice for 8 years. During this time, he undertook further postgraduate training and was awarded a Diploma in Postgraduate Dental Studies from Bristol University in 1998. This three year course comprised modules in Oral Surgery, Periodontology and Paediatric Dentistry.

In 2001, James joined The Circus Dental Practice where he works four days per week. He spends Tuesdays at The Bristol Dental Hospital where he has a teaching position which he has held since 1999. This involves teaching dental undergraduates in Restorative Dentistry, including Crown and Bridgework, Root Canal Treatment and Dentures. This position also involves examining the undergraduate dental students, both during their course and during their final degree examinations.

James is also an examiner for the International Qualifying Examination for the General Dental Council. He runs an evening course for the Dental Nurses in the Practice towards their National Certificate of the National Exam Board in Dental Nursing, in which he has 100% success and has recently been appointed to the panel of examiners for the National Exam Board for Dental Nurses.

James lives in Bath and enjoys cycling and running. He is secretary of the Bath Circle of Magicians and plays the Classical Guitar. He is also studying towards his private pilots license.

James is an examiner for the General Dental Council's Overseas Registration Exam for foreign dentists who wish to practice within the UK and has been appointed Specialty Dentist in Restorative Dentistry at Bristol Dental Hospital.
